Publishing with Sounds True

A guide to working with a publisher

When choosing a publisher, it is so important that you align your work with a publishing house that supports your books’ values and intentions.

One of my favorite publishers in the spiritual and personal growth genres is Sounds True, which is why I wanted to devote a whole blog article to them. (You can see my list of other top spiritual book publishers HERE.)

I know authors who have published with Sound True and had a good experience, and I know them to have a solid track record in terms of how they work with their author-collaborators, as well as how they contribute to the industry and their audience of readers.

This blog shares a bit about Sounds True’s background and their submission process if you’re interested in pitching your book project to them.

I help authors write and edit powerful book proposals that are crafted to be most attractive to publishers like Sounds True. I’ve worked on hundreds of proposals, many of which have secured book deals and secured prizes in book contests. If you’re interested in collaborating with me, reach out HERE.

Exploring Sounds True Publishing

If you are considering Sounds True as a viable publishing option for your book, I suggest going to their website and perusing their recently published books to get a sense of whether your book’s topic would fit their current interests.

The good news for many authors is that Sounds True accepts book proposals from authors directly without an agent (they do not want full manuscripts).

They have a specific template they want authors to use, which you can find HERE. Their template follows pretty closely with what is asked for by most book publishers; so if you have a book proposal you’ve already written, it can likely be adapted to fit their requirements.

Once you have written a solid book proposal, you will email that to acquisitions@soundstrue.com. For a full list of submission guidelines for publishing with Sounds True, you can visit their website.

It is important to note that they only respond to queries for books they are interested in and don't provide feedback for all submissions. For this reason, you’ll want to make your proposal as strong as possible and stand out amongst the large volume of queries they receive.

Book Proposal Support

If you are looking for support exploring your publishing options further, my self-paced video course Choose Your Publishing Path is a great way to determine whether traditional or self publishing is best for you. We can also hop on a single-session coaching call to talk about your book concept and explore whether it might be a fit for Sounds True or not.

For those interested in publishing traditionally with Sounds True or another publisher, I offer personalized Book Proposal support (coaching and editing). Our collaboration can make a huge difference and get your proposal noticed amongst the large volume of submissions Sounds True receives.

If you would like to discuss these options further, please complete this interest form and I will be in touch shortly. I look forward to supporting you.
