You know the importance of digesting your food—no matter how delicious and rich a meal you’ve enjoyed, if you don’t digest what you’ve taken in, there will be trouble.

The same is true for your life experiences. When you’ve been through a major adventure—whether that involves travel, a major life initiation or transition, a big storyline, theme or area of struggle in your life, or something else— you need to digest and process those experiences.

Writing—especially writing that is witnessed by yourself and others—is one of the most powerful and effective ways to digest your life experiences.

Writing also helps you:

  • remember your experiences

  • get a clearer idea of what your experiences were, what they meant to you then and what they mean to you now

  • claim yourself as the author of your own life

  • explore your internal landscapes (i.e. the emotional, mental, spiritual terrain)

  • heal the harder parts of your stories

  • honor what is true

  • transform in healthy and empowering ways

I know deeply the magic that can happen when we write our stories. I’ve been writing to digest, heal and understand my experiences since I was a teenager.

I’ve been a professional writer since 2003, hold a master’s in teaching writing, was an English professor for six years, led hundreds of clients through the book writing process, facilitated expressive writing workshops internationally, and published my own book that helps people write their own stories. I am also a certified Integrative Somatic Trauma Practitioner.

I am Transformational Coach that uses parts work, narrative therapy, deep imagery, somatic healing, trauma support, and embodiment practices to support clients in their journey toward greater healing.

Heal a Story that Hurts Group Program

This process is a work of art, designed to help you in transforming your relationship to something in your life that has been and/or is currently painful, whether that be a past experience, a relationship dynamic, a trauma, or the like. This is a dynamic, multi-modal weaving of some of the most powerful modalities I’ve studied, including:

  • narrative therapy: how to write in a way that heals

  • somatic healing: honoring and harnessing the wisdom of the body in the process

  • non-violent communication, which we apply to ourselves and our stories

  • Self-inquiry, a process offered by Byron Katie and others

  • Deep Imagery and Timeline Mending: ways of accessing our deep psyche and imaginations to aid our healing


This program is truly revolutionary and based on the work I developed when writing my book Birth Your Story around healing our stories.

Writing to Heal Personal Coaching

If you would like private support to using Writing to Heal, I offer 8-week coaching sessions designed to help you:

•   Cultivate Clarity: we’ll get clear about the healing narrative(s) you want to write, why you want to write it, for whom you are writing (can just be for you), what your challenges and strengths are, where your hang-ups are, what you need to write, and more. 

•   Create an intention-based, achievable writing plan: Set clear intentions and create a focused plan of action so that you can heap the most reward from our time together and from your writing experience. 

•    Recieve the benefits of an empathic witness + get feedback on your writing: having an empathic witness to our stories is a potent way to heal. I will offer this empathic witnessing as you move through this expressive writing work. If you want to share your work beyond our coaching container, you’ll receive feedback to strengthen your writing for your intended audience.

•    Get unstuck + Receive Holistic Support: together we’ll help you clear writing hurdles as they arise, get unstuck, brainstorm, solve a problem in your writing, and revitalize your writing life. I offer somatic-based, trauma-informed support to help you through the challenges and stresses that may arise as you go to write the stories that matter.

Private Write to Heal Coaching Package includes 3 calls a month (and one rest week) for two months. You’ll receive guided practices modeled after the Heal A Story That Hurts curriculum but customized for your journey. Our work will blend coaching, therapeutic writing, somatic therapy practices, deep imagery, and self-inquiry.
