Book Publishing

Specializing in personal growth, spiritual, psychological, and related transformational non-fiction and memoir books.

If you’re like most people, you’ve heard all sorts of stories about book publishing from your colleagues and friends. There is a lot of misinformation and skewed perceptions of both traditional and self-publishing out there. (We give authors helpful and accurate information about the publishing process through our coaching work and our blog.)

We are author advocates devoted to helping our clients find the right publishing path for themselves.

Traditional publishing and self-publishing each have their pros and cons. We recommend you begin your publishing journey by weighing your options and making a decision about what path is best for you.

Proposal Support

Traditional Publishing Support
Book Proposal Writing + Editing Support

If you’ve decided that traditional publishing is the way to go for you and your book, you’ll need to write a book proposal and query letters to pitch your book to both publishers and agents. We offer coaching and editing support for those wanting to write a book proposal. It’s really amazing to see the difference between an author’s first and final drafts of their book proposal once we’ve offered our expert support to the process. We’ve helped many people complete proposals to submit to top publishers of spiritual and self-help books, including Hay House, Sounds True, and others.

CHOOSE YOUR LEVEL OF SUPPORT

We offer three different book proposal packages:

proposal coaching
+ editing

This package includes TWO coaching calls as you are writing your proposal to offer you guidance, direction, and editorial feedback in the drafting stage.

It also includes a full proposal edit, editorial letter, and a follow-up call.

This service takes 3 to 4 months to complete.

I cannot begin to explain how influential Jaime was in the process of me putting together my book proposal.

I’m extremely grateful for everything she has done through this journey to help me!!! She really guided me and coached me through the trials and tribulations by being transparent, providing inspiration and motivation, top notch expertise and tools, encouragement, and was extremely collaborative. I couldn’t have done this proposal without her and I’m forever grateful and would highly recommend her to anyone who wants to write a book!!

Self Publishing Partnership Program

The Self-Publishing Partnership Program is for authors who have completed the editorial phase of their book project and are ready to get help bringing their book to market in the next 3 to 6 months.

So many of our clients want to self-publish their books, but feel totally overwhelmed at the process.  While they love the idea of maintaining creative control, publishing their books in a desirable time frame, and making more money on their book sales, they feel intimidated about learning a whole new process and the time it will take to find the right support and manage the self-publishing process.  They don’t know what steps to take when or how to find the right support.

We take the headache, guesswork, learning curve, frustration, and roadblocks out of self-publishing.

We serve as project managers to guide you through the design, production, launch and marketing phases of getting your book into the world. You get to stay in the creative driver’s seat and we handle the rest.

Our goal is to produce a book of excellence, one that is up to the standard of traditionally published books. Your readers won’t know the difference.

what’s included

Please click on each item below for a detailed description of project inclusions

  • Kickoff Call (up to 2 hours): during this call we will review all the elements of the publishing process to clarify your vision and preferences for design, required steps (such as getting endorsements, ISBNs, permissions and pricing)

Interior Comps Call (45 min): When the initial design concepts for the interior of your book are ready, we will hop on a call to review options, explore your design preferences, and make a plan for revision.

Cover Comps Call (45 min): When the initial concepts for the cover of your book are ready, we’ll hop on a call to review options, explore your preferences, and make a plan for your desired revisions.

Marketing Call (90 minutes): During this call, we will explore your marketing options and come up with a customized plan for marketing your book. While this service doesn’t include our involvement in the execution of this plan, we serve as advisors to help you develop a marketing plan that fits your needs, desires, and preferences.

Wrap up Call: (1 hour) celebration, managing your accounts moving forward, next steps in marketing/ambassadorship

Your ISBN numbers for your book (in each format)

  • This is the process of taking your Microsoft Word document and transforming it into the actual interior of your book. This aspect of the service includes working in house (for simpler designs) or with a preferred interior designer (for more complex or customized designs). We will develop 3 to 5 comps, or design options for your review. We’ll hop on a call to go over the designs and determine your preferences. We will then bring the entire manuscript into interior formatting. You’ll receive a final proof to review and approve.

  • We have an exclusive partnership with a book cover design team that also serves major publishing houses. Included in the Publishing Partnership is the design of your book cover and all the coordination necessary with the design team. You tell us your design needs and preferences, we coordinate with the designers, we have a call together to review the first design concepts and plan desired revisions, and coordinate the completion of the final design. This cost includes the ISBN numbers you will need to publish your book in each format (e.g. eBook, paperback, hardcover, audiobook).

  • We set up your accounts and set up your book titles with our three preferred publishing platforms. This will make your book accessible on Amazon, all major online book retailers, and eBook distributors. We will also launch your book on the platform that all brick and mortar book stores order their titles on. We will order a proof of your books before your publication date to ensure everything looks amazing as the book makes its transition from a digital proof to an actual physical book. We’ll also teach you how to use the platforms to order books and track royalties.

  • You’ll have access to our team throughout our active partnership period. This allows us to have regular check-ins to offer you support with next-step execution. This keeps the process streamlined and headed in the right direction. We offer support Monday through Thursday with a 24 to 48 hour reply time.

  • We set up and share with you an easy-to-use professional project management tool that will help us coordinate and execute on all the steps of the self-publishing process together.  Here, you will also have access to private client tools, templates, and resources.  Examples of these include resources on getting endorsements, writing the front and back matter of your book, writing your book description, and so on.

  • Editing and Proofreading: We do require that all manuscripts we support in publishing receive all levels of editing, including a final proofread, prior entering the Publishing Partnership Program. We do not allow for revisions to be made to a manuscript once it enters the design phase. Please see our Editing Services page for more details.

Crowdfunding Campaign: We are also available to support you through creating a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for authors, which is an amazing way to create the capital you need to self-publish your book, and pre-sell and market your book. Jaime, our founder, successfully completed a Kickstarter campaign for her book Birth Your Story, raising five figures in capital to support the editing, design and publication phases of her book.

Website copy review: We can review and advise on your website structure and copy. We can also direct you to preferred and vetted website designers.

Indexing: This is a service we contract out to a specialist.

Additional marketing support: we can offer a review of your email nurture sequence, opt-ins, and similar marketing efforts. We can advise on and review your magazine, podcast, and other media platform pitches. We can also refer you to teams that specialize in executing book marketing strategy.

Audiobook production: We partner with a great audiobook recording, production, editing and distribution team. You’ll have the option to narrate the book yourself (we’ll walk you through everything you need to do this from your own home) or hire a professional narrator for your book.

testimonial

From the outset, Jaime became 100% invested in my project and coached me from my raw manuscript to a polished, published book.

I am a first-time author with ZERO experience in editing, formatting, or publishing. Jaime was referred to me by an author friend, and I’m eternally grateful. From the outset, Jaime became 100% invested in my project and coached me from my raw manuscript to a polished, published book. She is an expert on every aspect of the process required to guide you through to success, and she has the connections to get it done quickly. Look no further, you have found in Jaime a caring, brilliant partner. She’s a true professional. I will not write another book without having Jaime on my team.

How to Get Started
& What to Expect

We meet with folks who are interested in this Program to clarify exact needs and share a finalized program cost. From there, we complete a contract, you complete your payment, and we set our intended milestone dates for the project.

We aim to complete most projects within 3 months, with a maximum program period of 6 months in case we meet any delays. After that, we’ll kick off with our first call, establish our project management support systems and communication channels, and get to making book magic together.

  • If you still need editing support, we will take care of that process before moving into the publishing project management phase together. Please reach out about editing services first.  Note that we require all clients to have their manuscript proofread before we enter the Publishing Partnership Program.

  • Yes, we share these during our exploration phase with prospective clients. We are happy to share the designer’s portfolio with you and show you examples of their stellar work.  You’re welcome to look HERE, HERE, and HERE at examples of the work our design team has produced for past Whale Song clients.

  • In truth you can do all of this by yourself.  And it takes a lot of time to research what needs to happen and when, what is the best next step for your project and goals, keep everything organized, and actually execute on every task involved in getting your book to market.

The Publishing Partnership Program takes the headache out of this process, reduces your time and energy investment, and optimizes your experience and effectiveness in bringing your book into the world.

  • Yes, absolutely. We meet Resistance at every stage of the writer's journey; and publishing is no exception.  It’s normal and we’ve got you!

The whole point of choosing to work with us is so you don't have to do it alone.  You'll have seasoned experts at your side to support you through every step of this process and working hard on your behalf to deliver an exceptional finished book.

In the experiences of my past clients, this support and guidance makes all the difference. Independently publishing with support keeps you and your creative vision at the center, ensuring you get your book into the world YOUR way, on YOUR terms.

  • We are a full-service self-publishing support provider, not a vanity press, hybrid publisher, or traditional publisher.  That means you keep FULL creative rights to all your books and earn 100% of the royalties (sales) of all of your books.

  • The world of publishing was revolutionized by print on-demand technology.  This means you don’t have to purchase and house a print run of your books and hope they sell.  We bring your book to platforms where you pay no money up front for them to sell your book. Rather, you pay a percentage of every sale of your book to these platforms for the book’s production cost. To give you an example, most 250 to 300-page books listed on Amazon cost about $4-6 to produce.  If your book is listed for say $20, you will earn about $14-16 per book sold.  (To give you a comparison, most traditionally published authors make less than a dollar for every book sold.)

When you want to order author copies of your book (to sell directly to your readers via your website or at a speaking event, for example), you only pay the cost of producing the book and any associated shipping costs.

  • We totally get it; everyone has a different budget for publishing their books. If this Program is beyond your reach at this time, we’re still here to support you.  We highly recommend taking our Course Draft to Done. It walks you through all the steps of the self-publishing process.  You’re welcome to hire us as a consultant if you need guidance at any stage of the process.
